Helen WanderaMy name is Helen Wandera, a Kenya-Canadian citizen. I am a mother of 3 boys and 1 girl, all young adults now. As a dedicated day home provider and early childhood educator, I am deeply committed to nurturing young minds and fostering a supportive environment for children to learn and grow. Currently, I am pursuing my Master's degree in Leadership in Education at the University of Lethbridge. I am driven by a profound passion for empowering children and guiding them through their formative years. With years of experience in childcare and education, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to my role. I believe in creating a warm, inclusive atmosphere where every child feels valued and encouraged to explore their interests and abilities. Through a combination of hands-on activities, educational games, and compassionate guidance, I strive to cultivate a love for learning and foster essential skills for future success.
My journey in early childhood education is fueled by a genuine love for children and a deep-seated commitment to their well-being. I am dedicated to staying current with the latest research and best practices in the field, continuously seeking opportunities for professional development to enhance my skills as an educator and leader. Above all, I am inspired by the joy and curiosity that children bring to each day, and I am honored to play a role in shaping their bright futures. Amila HewanayakeI am Amila Hewanayake, and I am originally from Sri Lanka. I immigrated to Canada with my family in January 2016, to continue my career in the Agriculture sector. I graduated from Sri Lanka School of Agriculture-Kundasale and worked as an Agricultural Instructor in the Department of Agriculture for many years.
Teaching is what I was meant to do and I used to work with different age groups of school children back home, conducting some training programmes in the Agricultural field. I have two lovely children, a son and a daughter. After my daughter was born in 2019, I decided to change my profession and my passion for being with children brought me to learn about Early learning. I followed the Early Childhood Education Diploma course in Bow Valley College-Okotoks campus and obtained level 2 ECE, while I was working in a well established daycare in High River. In gaining further knowledge about Alberta’s Early Learning, I completed Alberta Curriculum Framework (FLIGHT) under MacEwan University in February 2023. Also, GRIT/ASaP mobile training and PFP Learning Series. I moved to Lethbridge last December with my family and decided to operate a dayhome. In February 2024, I became a dayhome Educator, and currently working with a lovely group of children in my day home. I believe play is vital for children’s growth, learning and development. Thus through play, children learn about the world and themselves. As I practice my profession daily, I learn new things from children, families and the environment. I am willing to expand my knowledge in my profession and develop my skills to become an effective and reflective educator, so that I can guide and nurture children to become mighty learners and capable citizens. |
