Kyla RiveraMy name is Kyla Rivera and I am 22 years old. I was born in the Philippines and migrated to Canada in December 2012. In the Philippines, I used to live with my dad as my mom moved here to have a better and stable life. As the time passed by, my mom brought me here to Canada, to give me the opportunity to have independence and a better life. When I was in the Philippines, I used to sing for competitions, which helped improve my self- confidence within myself. I really love music! I play piano, guitar, xylophone and drums. Also, I love watching Netflix, my favourite movie is “Coach Carter” it gives us some understanding that motivation will lead you to success. I have work experience in early childhood education for 3 years and now and currently am a day home educator.
I have decided to take the early childhood education course because when I am with the children I feel comfortable playing or interacting with them, and their smiles give me joy. Also, I have been working for Edo Japan since December 2013 at the same time operating a day home to work on children’s developmental skills through social, physical, creative, intellectual, and emotional. I recently graduated from Lethbridge College with an Early Childhood Diploma, which has strengthened my skills as an educator. Now, I am working on getting my degree in Professional Arts in Human Services. I believe that education in child development is the best key to work with children’s needs and also, it is crucial to expand the child’s learning skills through play. |

Kim OudshoornHello! My name is Kim! I grew up and around in Coalhurst and moved to Lethbridge about three years ago. have worked in childcare for the past six years. I have worked with children ages 1 to 12 and have always loved being around children. When I was little I loved all babies and would claim them as mine own. My dream was to open up my own day home. When an opportunity came up last year I took it and have became a licensed day home in February of 2024. I absolutely love working with children and helping them grow and develop. My fiancée and I are planning our wedding for next May and are very excited for that. In my spare time I enjoy just hanging out with family and friends. Lanie ComiaMy name is Lanie Comia, and I am a mother of stunning child and married to my husband, who is amazing at supporting me. My homeland is the Philippines. I completed a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. I worked for three years in an electronics firm after being employed. I always had dreamt of working in another country. After working the night shift, I looked for an agency that would hire me to go to Taiwan. I did this for almost two years, and then all of a sudden I got accepted and spent five years working in Taiwan.
Back in 2007, my friends and I used to have conversations about where we thought we would be in ten years. I still remember my response, which was, "I will be in North America." I kept submitting applications to any agencies to travel to Canada, and the opportunity came, my working visa was released three months after I met all the conditions. Two days before my birthday on February 26, 2009, I landed in Canada—what a wonderful birthday present! That time, I was in Banff, AB. I was committed to my employer for nearly eleven years. However, my family still had the desire to purchase a home of our own, and since living in Banff was expensive, we had to move to Lethbridge in 2020. Along with my spouse, I was employed at the Lethbridge Correctional Centre as a kitchen helper. I was given motivation by one of my close friends, Kyla, to establish my own daycare. I've been thinking about this for a while as owning a day home fit with my family and children. I therefore made the decision to begin finishing up all of the requirements to get my level 1, and apply to work as an educator with the WeeRKids organization. With two kids, I opened my daycare on November 20, 2023. However, God is gracious. After a month, the number of children in my care has grown to six. Being an educator is an exciting vocation, but it is also a difficult one. But for me, I find great fulfillment in being a part of tiny children's growth and in helping them form their developing minds and bodies. Suzette Failma |
