My name is Kyla Rivera and I am 22 years old. I was born in the Philippines and migrated to Canada in December 2012. In the Philippines, I used to live with my dad as my mom moved here to have a better and stable life. As the time passed by, my mom brought me here to Canada, to give me the opportunity to have independence and a better life. When I was in the Philippines, I used to sing for competitions, which helped improve my self- confidence within myself. I really love music! I play piano, guitar, xylophone and drums. Also, I love watching Netflix, my favourite movie is “Coach Carter” it gives us some understanding that motivation will lead you to success. I have work experience in early childhood education for 3 years and now and currently am a day home educator.
I have decided to take the early childhood education course because when I am with the children I feel comfortable playing or interacting with them, and their smiles give me joy. Also, I have been working for Edo Japan since December 2013 at the same time operating a day home to work on children’s developmental skills through social, physical, creative, intellectual, and emotional. I recently graduated from Lethbridge College with an Early Childhood Diploma, which has strengthened my skills as an educator. Now, I am working on getting my degree in Professional Arts in Human Services. I believe that education in child development is the best key to work with children’s needs and also, it is crucial to expand the child’s learning skills through play.
